At ICNOS Adventures, we take the idea of responsible tourism to heart. We live and work here. Our friends and family work and live here. We love Italy and its people. We have a deep vested interest in supporting and promoting tourism that is sustainable and non damaging to the local environment and culture.
So what is responsible tourism? This is the philosophy by which we design our tours and choose our operators and accommodations. Keep a higher percentage of the income from tourism in the local area.
In conventional package tourism up to 90% of the cost of your holiday leaves the destination. We choose local, usually family owned, hotels and restaurants. Our guides are hand picked and usually from the villages that you pass through. This starts and fosters a local industry of people who work and live in the areas and for the local area and people by creating jobs.
By using and supporting local businesses we Respect and Encourage the local cultures. Basically, when small groups of conscientios guests visit a locality to learn and enjoy the food and culture, jobs are created locally.
Visitors get the authentic exposure (not to mention food!) and people can earn a living in the towns and villages that they would otherwise have to leave to find gainful employment.
All of our vendors have been selected for their commitment to minimizing the impact on the environment.
In addition to using public transportation whenever possible, we choose albergos that recycle and restaurants that use local foods. Local businesses have always been thrifty, and have readily adapted to waste recycling and water conservation.
By using locally grown foods, restaurants reduce needless waste and support local farmers.
Sustainable Rural Development Project
We believe that our journeys should respect and benefit local people and the environment in the villages in which we operate. That is why we have chosen to support a sustainable rural development project in Tramonti, one of the villages included in some of our travel proposals.
Tramonti is renowned for its baskets woven with large flat-shaved strips of chestnut bark. Thanks to the strong and passionate work of local weavers, these robust baskets of Tramonti have been produced for centuries. Basket weaving is sadly a diminishing craft in Tramonti: there are only three weavers left in Tramonti.
We want to promote the revival of this ancient craft by assisting the local people of the Association “Figlino - Borgo da favola”. We believe that the revival of ancient crafts is a connecting link between the culture of the past and modern society, and that folk arts helps preserve the centuries-old customs and traditions of the Tramonti people.
By allocating a portion of the revenues from our trips directly to the support of a meaningful, sustainable rural development project in the country we visit, we aim to maximize respectful interaction with the local people and culture, minimizing our impact on the environment.
"ICNOS Adventures provided our family with a Christmas to Remember on the Amalfi Coast.
From the family restaurants with their warm welcome and delicious foods, the hotel managers expecting our arrival and ensuring our comfort, to the care of our luggage and the parking of the car, everyone connected to ICNOS Adventures was friendly and flexible, helpful and reliable, which meant that we could relax and thoroughly enjoy the stunning beauty of the Amalfi Coast. Marcello printed up our daily itinerary which included easy to read maps, and historical information on the sites we would pass as we walked. Also, there were recommendations on where to have our lunch, and a suggestion of a special site worth the extra effort to see..." Please click here to continue and to read our testimonials!
“Italy is my very favorite travel destination and I have taken many tours through both northern and southern Italy. Looking for something special this time, I contacted ICNOS Adventures. Making it look easy, they had a 8 day tour through Tuscany tailored to my wishes: no big tour buses; small, out of the way, family run hotels and agriturismos; beautiful villages and cultural sites off the beaten tourist routes. In short, Anna and Marcello gave me the very best of Tuscany.”

"Marcello, Jeff and I had an absolutely delightful time - from the exquisite scenary and impressive historic sites to the warmth and friendliness of the people we met along the way - we would not have changed a thing. ICNOS Adventures is to be commended for creating an experience we will cherish forever and for your and Dannielle's commitment to our comfort and enjoyment of a diverse and interesting itinerary. I feel like we were able to experience the uniqueness of each of the different towns we frequented along the Amalfi Coast and Sorrento Peninsula while never feeling 'rushed' to the next event. Each day was well timed and each place we stayed gave us a unique environment from which to begin our day and end our evenings. We sincerely thank you for creating so many wonderful memories. Best to you and yours, Bethany" Jeff & Bethany DeLude, Guided tour "Walking on the Amalfi Coast & Sorrento Peninsula" 2010 Please Click here to continue to read our testimonials
“Having traveled in Europe and Italy before, we thought that we knew what to expect during an Italian Holiday. But nothing prepared us for the incredible hospitality we felt from everyone associated with Icnos Adventures. The hikes along the Amalfi Coast a were incredible and very well planned, and each and every hotel and restaurant made us feel more like family than tourists. We can’t recommend this area and these people highly enough!”

“Linda and I have told all our friends that the trip we did with you was our best holiday ever, before that it was always the Alaska/Canada trip" Linda & Jen Steyn, self guided "the Jewels of the Amalfi Coast" 2010
"...We have had an opportunity to travel to Italy before, and have done other walking tours, and it is agreed that we will tell everyone considering a tour of Italy to put their vacation time in the hands of Marcello, at ICNOS Adventures, they will walk away with memories to last a lifetime and a deep appreciation for the "little something extra" they do so well. We are very appreciative of all they did to make our walking tour so memorable!
We wish them the very best!
with warmest regards"

“We hired Marcello to organize our trip to the Southern Italy's Almafi Coast in early 2010. I was extremely pleased that tour materials provided prior to the trip were an honest reflection of the tour and the area. We found your advice regarding our needs very helpful. Everything exceeded our expectations: the tour, food and accommodations were fabulous. I would recommend this company to anyone who wants to tour Italy.” Annie Swingen, tailor made tour Amalfi Coast 2010
